About the Role & Team

Urban Company’s India business is divided into three large verticals with several core categories within these verticals. Each category has an independent user offering and supply pool and is led by a business head.

• Beauty vertical
• Salon for women: Skin-care services
• Salon for women: Hair, nails and make-up

• Spa therapy for men and women
• Treatments
• Home vertical
• AC and appliance repair
• Cleaning and Pest control

What you’ll do:

The category manager is responsible for onboarding the right quality supply to ensure demand is fulfilled with the right customer experience being delivered.

• There are 3 major roles within this mandate –

• Ensuring no breakage in daily operations in your city
• Implementing growth and quality improvement initiatives in sync with category heads at central level
• Owning above mandate will require you to do the following –
• Building a strong connect with service professionals in your city
• Deploying your analytical skills to deep dive on key business problems and propose solutions
• Getting your hands dirty in terms of going on ground to understand real issues, be it customer experience, partner onboarding, etc.
• Running tight processes and SOPs in the city related to partner onboarding, service quality improvement, etc.

• Bachelor’s degree is mandatory

Category Manager – Quick Commerce

Key Responsibilities

Category Growth & Quick Commerce

• Identify high-demand SKUs and optimize product assortment to drive GMV.

• Collaborate with suppliers and partner brands to expand the product portfolio.

• Lead new product launches with a focus on visibility and placement on platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart.

Pricing & Promotions

• Create pricing strategies that maximize margins while remaining competitive.

• Plan and execute promotional campaigns, flash sales, and bundle offers.

• Monitor market trends and competitor pricing to fine-tune strategies.

Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination

• Forecast demand using trends and historical data.

• Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure optimal stock levels.

• Collaborate with warehouses to prevent stockouts and overstocking issues.

Platform & Vendor Management

• Manage strong working relationships with key Quick Commerce platforms (Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart).

• Negotiate better margins, visibility placements, and commissions.

• Liaise with vendors for efficient replenishment and supply chain flow.

Data & Performance Analysis

• Track KPIs like GMV, AOV, sell-through rates, and profit margins.

• Use data insights to refine product strategies and optimize category performance.

• Analyze customer buying behavior to fine-tune selection and pricing.

Key Skills Required

• Strong exposure to quick commerce platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart or similar.

• Experience in category management within Quick Commerce, FMCG, Retail, or e-commerce.

• Excellent skills in vendor negotiation and inventory planning.

• Deep understanding of pricing, promotions, and merchandising tactics.

• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams like supply chain, operations, and marketing.

Preferred Background

• 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in Quick Commerce, FMCG, or E-commerce.

What you will do:

● Driving Growth:

– Business owner for the category/group of categories. The role entails leveraging the know-how of internal and external variables to deliver growth, building relationships with vendors, building promotional strategies.

– Analyse market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities. Optimize product listings, including accurate descriptions to drive consideration for our brand.

● Category P&L:

– Command best in market margins, BFDs from the vendors and marry it with the right set of promotions and retention. We would love it if you make it a profitable business, ASAP 🙂

– Detailed planning along with brand, operations teams of Ecommerce function. Drive implementation & track progress closely. Lead the post activation evaluation process to improve efficiency of spends.

-Planning & executing promotions, discounting and category related monetisation activities.

● Reporting and analyses:

– Forecasting, data interpretation, monitoring, and reporting on the category data and driving actionable insights.

– Work closely with demand planning and supply chain team to ensure forecasting accuracy for category to improve inventory management & fill rates.

-Bring customer backward thinking and insights through data and research. Treat customer experience as the most important metric.

● Competition / Market Analysis:

-Thorough understanding of the industry, trends/events, and continuously monitor competition and industry developments. Benchmark and negotiate the offers/promotion from vendors for the platform.

● Procurement & inventory:

– Responsible for category width and depth. Identifying the right vendors and establishing long term relationships with them. Overseeing and managing inventory levels and DOI to optimize working capital and consistent availability.

– Assortment rationalization and seasonal assortment planning.

Requirements

● 5 years of prior experience in category management/e-commerce mandatory

● Customer first approach- Identifying customer needs and inventing new ways to meet those needs

● Proficiency in MS office, G-Sheets, data analysis and using insights to drive decision-making is a must

● Proven analytical thinking, project management skills, attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills are essential

● Negotiation skills and influencing abilities

● Obsession with learning and excitement to solve problems for our furry friends

● Candidates with master’s degree preferred with experience in Category management preferably from FMCG, F&B , Beauty , Fashion verticals.
